Transforming Reporting and Insights via Sharepoint and Power Platform
Our customer, an education provider, had built out an enterprise data warehouse to uplift their executive reporting requirements, however, the absence of digital insights provided a significant challenge.
With all reports paper-based, the organisation found that there was no mechanism to enrich the data they were collecting.
Chamonix was engaged to fulfil this requirement through the development of ‘Executive Dashboards’ to provide robust reporting to meet the needs of the Executive leadership team.
In a move to digitise the reporting assets, we came up with two digital forms. The first, a ‘balance scorecard’ served to provide evidence of achieved metrics within schools, and the second a ‘Enrolments and Departures’ form served to anonymously report students entering and leaving the education provider’s sites.
These were built using SharePoint and the Power Platform. Power Apps was used to create the digital forms which allowed users to view and manage records created for their school. These records were then stored in SharePoint. Power Automate was used behind the scenes to create automated workflows, enhance security of the forms by serving as intermediary between the forms and SharePoint. This setup enabled further extension and use of Power BI for reporting services.
We were able to quickly come up with a robust solution that essentially filled the gap our customer was experiencing in enabling them to report across a range of performance metrics for over 100 schools.
There was some complexity involved in navigating tenancies and associated security given the number of sites needing secure access to their respective data.
In terms of benefits delivered, our customer now not only has a solution that could be further built upon as well as the ability to report effectively on a range of metrics, but the move to a digital reporting platform also means an organisational uplift in terms of modern ways of working.
